Privacy policy

The short version: we don't run ads, we don't set tracking cookies, and we never sell or rent anyone's data. Here is the long version, in plain language.

Effective June 12, 2026. If we change how we handle data, this page changes first, with a new date.

What we collect, and why

If you join the email list: your email address, which you give us on purpose. We use Kit to run the list, so your address and your subscription status are stored on Kit's systems. Signup is double opt-in: you won't receive the Dispatch until you confirm from your own inbox. We send the list one thing, the Dispatch: price changes, subscription changes, and the occasional new camera worth knowing about, which is what the signup form says. Like most email services, Kit also records standard engagement data for each subscriber: whether an email was opened, whether a link was clicked, and an approximate location Kit builds from those interactions. We can see that data, and we use it for nothing beyond judging whether the emails are worth sending. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe. Unsubscribing stops all email immediately; Kit keeps the address on a suppressed record, and if you want even that record gone, write to us and we will delete it.

If you email us: we receive your address and whatever you write. Mail to [email protected] is delivered through Cloudflare Email Routing to a Gmail mailbox, and replies are sent through Zoho Mail, so your correspondence lives in those providers' systems the way any email does, and it stays there; ask us to delete it and we will.

If you just read the site: the site is served by Cloudflare. Like any host, Cloudflare processes connection data (such as your IP address and browser type) to deliver pages and to protect the site from abuse. We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics, a small Cloudflare script that loads with our pages, to see aggregate numbers: page views, referrers, country, and rough device type. It is Cloudflare's privacy-first product: it sets no cookies, uses no persistent identifiers, and does not follow you to other sites. We see counts, not people.

Cookies

Our pages set none. There is no analytics cookie and no advertising cookie. The only third-party script this site loads is the cookie-free Cloudflare analytics beacon described above; there is no advertising or cross-site tracking script of any kind. Cloudflare may set a short-lived security cookie if it needs to check that a visitor is not an attacking bot; that exists to keep the site up, not to track you.

Affiliate links

As of the date above, no link on this site is an affiliate link. If that changes (it may, and the methodology page explains the rules we have set for ourselves), affiliate links will be marked as sponsored, and clicking one will take you to the seller through the affiliate program's tracking service, which may set cookies on its own and the seller's domains to credit the referral. That happens on their sites, under their privacy policies, not here. What we would receive from such a program is sales reporting about the orders our links produce, never your name, email address, or contact details.

What we never do

Your choices and rights

You can unsubscribe from the email list at any time with the link in any email, no questions asked. You can also write to [email protected] to ask what we hold about you (for most people: an email address on the list, or past correspondence, or nothing) and to have it corrected or deleted. We honor those requests for everyone, wherever you live, including the rights granted by the GDPR in Europe and the CCPA in California. We will never treat you differently for exercising them.

Children

This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us their email address, write to us and we will delete it.

Who to talk to

Privacy questions reach a person at [email protected]. If you believe we have it wrong somewhere, tell us; being corrected is part of how this site works.
